An Uncommon Architect is a tribute to Charles M. Goodman and his architectural legacy in Fairfax County, Virginia as exemplified through his work at The Commons of McLean in Tyson’s Corner
LCOR was tasked by the County of Fairfax to develop a virtual tour of The Commons of McLean along with a tribute to Charles M. Goodman as part of the requirements for re-zoning a portion of the property. While Goodman has gained recognition in recent years, there is not a lot published on his architecture. Additionally, the property would have needed historic restoration in order to properly create any sort of virtual tour.
Using the report created by History Matters, we developed a blueprint for examples of Goodman Principles at The Commons of McLean. Photographs and videos were taken of the property to illustrate. We developed a comprehensive website outlining the history of Tyson’s Corner, McLean Commons and supported with additional architectural achievements within the area. A lesson plan with worksheets was also created for use by education professionals with an interest in integrating the architect’s achievements into their curriculum.
The website is a resource for those interested in Charles M. Goodman and his achievements at The Commons of McLean as well as other notable area projects. The County of Fairfax approved the site as fulfilling the requirements and LCOR was able to move forward with the re-zoning of the property.
